Là một trong những tính năng bảo mật hàng đầu được Apple cung cấp cho các thiết bị iDevices của mình, thế nhưng nó cũng góp phần biến hàng chục nghìn chiếc iPhone trở thành “đồ bỏ đi”.
Một trong những báo cáo mới đây được công bố bởi Nhóm nghiên cứu lợi ích cộng đồng Colorado (CoPIRG), tiết lộ chỉ trong vòng 3 năm trở lại đây đã có tới hơn 66,000 chiếc iPhone bị phá hủy tại Colorado thay vì được tái chế và sử dụng lại. Tất cả là nhờ một tính năng bảo mật có trong nền tảng iOS của Apple.
Chỉ trong 3 năm, có tới hơn 66,000 chiếc iPhone không thể được tái chế
Liên minh Wireless Alliance, trong 3 năm từ 2015 tới 2018 cũng đã nhận được khoảng 6 triệu chiếc điện thoại cho mục đích tái chế, cho biết những chiếc iPhone họ nhận được là “hoàn toàn có thể được tái sử dụng”, nhưng thay vì được trực tiếp tái sử dụng bằng cách góp mặt trong thị trường smartphone cũ thì những chiếc iPhone này phải tháo rời từng linh kiện ra mới có thể được tái chế.
Vậy tính năng bảo mật nào của iOS khiến những chiếc iPhone này gặp khó khăn trong việc tái sử dụng? Câu trả lời chính là đến từ cơ chế Activation Lock, hay còn gọi là khóa kích hoạt iCloud, một phần của tính năng Find My iPhone.
Khi người dùng iOS bật tính năng Find My iPhone trong thiết bị của họ, cơ chế Activation Lock được tự động kích hoạt như là một thành phần bắt buộc. Tính năng này sẽ lưu trữ tài khoản Apple ID trên máy chủ kích hoạt thiết bị của Apple, và liên kết với thiết bị của người dùng. Để tắt tính năng Find My iPhone hay khôi phục cài đặt gốc, người dùng bắt buộc phải nhập mật khẩu của Apple ID.

Tất nhiên, tính năng này sẽ là một tính năng tuyệt vời giúp người dùng có thể dễ dàng kích hoạt chế độ “Lost Mode” (Chế độ mất), hiển thị thông tin của chủ sở hữu ở màn hình khóa và tăng tỷ lệ tìm được thiết bị một khi bị mất cắp hoặc để quên ở đâu đó.
“Trong khi tính năng Activation Lock hoạt động trong chế độ ngầm để khiến kẻ xấu gặp khó khăn trong việc sử dụng hay bán lại thiết bị của bạn thì chế độ Lost Mode rõ ràng sẽ giúp người dùng có thể dễ dàng hơn khi tìm lại thiết bị đã mất.” Apple tuyên bố.
Đúng là tính năng khóa kích hoạt sẽ biến những chiếc iPhone “xấu số” trở nên kém hấp dẫn hơn trong mắt những kẻ xấu, nhưng nó đồng thời cũng góp phần khiến những thiết bị này không thể tái sử dụng một cách hoàn toàn. Tại Liên minh Wireless Alliance, cứ 4 thiết bị được gửi tới để tái chế thì sẽ có 1 chiếc iPhone bị khóa kích hoạt, và con số này đang tăng dần trong những năm trở lại đây.
Chế độ Lost Mode khi iPhone bị mất cắp
“Hiện vẫn chưa có bất kỳ hệ thống nào có thể gắn cờ những thiết bị bị khóa kích hoạt mà không phải là thiết bị mất cắp và thông báo cho nhà sản xuất biết. Nếu một chiếc điện thoại bị dính Activation Lock không được đăng xuất ra bởi chủ sở hữu, nó sẽ vĩnh viễn bị khóa”. Báo cáo của CoPRIG cho biết.
Để giải quyết vấn đề thường trực này, CoPIRG cho rằng cần phải có sự cân bằng tốt hơn giữa việc ngăn chặn các hành vi trộm cắp và cho phép các nhà tái chế (có uy tín và được chứng nhận) có khả năng vô hiệu hóa tính năng khóa kích hoạt. Kiểu như các tổ chức tái chế (có uy tín) sẽ có thể gửi số IMEI của thiết bị bị khóa kích hoạt tới nhà sản xuất (cụ thể ở đây là Apple), và Apple sẽ gửi thông báo tới thiết bị hiện tại của chủ sở hữu để thông báo về việc mở khóa thiết bị đó.
Vậy người dùng chúng ta có thể làm những gì? Tất nhiên, chúng tôi không khuyến cáo các bạn tắt hẳn tính năng Find My iPhone đi vì dù sao đi nữa đây cũng là một tính năng thiết yếu để bảo vệ thiết bị của bạn khỏi những kẻ xấu.
